Michael New is a musician, educator, and author based in Las Vegas, NV. 

His formal training began at Kennesaw State University where he studied classical guitar performance with Mary Akerman.  He continued on to graduate performance studies with Dr. Matthew Dunne at The University of Texas, San Antonio.  While in Texas, he helped coordinate the Southwest Guitar Festival and worked closely with the Guitar Foundation of America. 

 

Michael has over 25 years of solo and ensemble performing experience, including masterclass performances for artists like Rodney Eichenberger, Ana Vidovic, Thomas Viloteau, Paul Galbraith, Roland Dyens, Isaac Bustos,

Michael Chapdelaine,and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

Michael began his career in music education as a private instructor in 2004.  He has since taught for a variety of music schools and is the former guitar department chair at the University of the Incarnate Word.  Among his honors and awards in music are the UTSA Teaching Recognition Award and the Music Teachers National Association StAR award. 

 

Michael currently maintains a private studio (Lessons and tutoring info) and performs occasionally in jazz and classical ensembles.  He has previously served as adjudicator for events like the NVMEA guitar ensemble competition and remains active in the music community, collaborating with local artists and organizations.
